Here is the second part of the interview series with Debbie Brummitt.
Yoga Interview: Debbie Brummitt Part II
Mostly vinyasa flow. I also teach Mommy & Me, therapeutic/gentle yoga, kid’s yoga, restorative, and hatha.
What advice would you give to a new student just starting yoga?
To not get frustrated or feel discouraged. Hold the vision and trust the process. Enjoy the practice, because in time, you will see the benefits. Have fun with it!
Is there a specific teacher who has influenced your style?
Both my 300-RYT mentors have been inspiring. Currently, one of my instructors that I take from is extremely helpful.
What is the most challenging thing you have run across while teaching?
Cueing a pose and seeing students still performing the poses incorrectly. It causes me to study more, to learn how to communicate more effectively to a broader range of people.
What part of your class do you feel you teach the best?
Since I never have taken my class, just kidding…..A good Savasansa and closing.
Why is it important to take from other instructors?
To keep your own practice fresh. Also, there is always an aspect of another instructor’s class that can boost creativity in my own teaching.
If you had to describe your teaching style in 5 words, what would you say?
Fun. Clear. Energizing. Open. Thoughtful.
